BARLEY FIELDS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN //

DIR. TIAN TSERING, TASHI FILMS

Sixteen-year-old Pema lives in the remote mountains of Tibet. For generations, her family has farmed their barley fields in peace. But when Pema’s father is taken away by the authorities, her world is shattered.

A Buddhist nun from the local nunnery walks into Pema’s life and invites her to join a group of locals escaping persecution by walking over the Himalayas, into India. Pema is torn: can she leave her mother, grandmother and younger siblings at this time of crisis? Has she the right, or the courage, to join her friend and seek a new life for herself?

A film about the price of freedom and who pays for it, told through the eyes of a teenage girl.

Shot entirely on location in the Himalayas with a non-professional cast, and made by filmmakers determined to give a voice to the oppressed of Tibet through a universal story about the love of parents for their children.

Shortlisted for Cannes Film Festival 2017, Un Certain Regard.

Official Selection, Mumbai International Film Festival 2017

Official Selection, Toronto International Film Festival: New Wave, 2017

THE BOOK OF GABRIELLE //

DIR. LISA GORNICK, VALIANT DOLL+ 65WILDING FILMS

Gabrielle is writing an illustrated guide book on sex, taking inspiration from childhood fantasies, past partners (male and female), and her current relationship with a younger woman.

Professional curiosity leads her to Saul Bernard, an established writer, whose sexually charged narratives have seeped into her secular Jewish attitudes ever since childhood. The more Gabrielle tells him about her book, the more he wants to mentor and shape her success.

Gabrielle rebels, yet as the book takes form, Saul presses on. Is he jealous or desirous? Gabrielle breaks free of his patriarchal mentoring and goes it alone.

Distributed in the UK by Peccadillo Pictures and Germany by Pro-Fun Media.

Tickets for The Book of Gabrielle screening at The Barbican this June 29, 2017.
